The coordinator for the Mendon Fireman's Carnival, Steve Shuler, partnered with Impact Earth to assist with their zero-waste event efforts. We assisted Steve with zero-waste pre-event planning and day-of-event-services over a three day period. The Impact Earth “Zero Waste Team” was led by co-founders Robert Putney & Elizabeth Carey, along with our Zero Waste Project Manager, Joe Harrington. Zero-waste stations were set-up during the event site and staffed by volunteers from RIT, MCC, and the Brighton and Honeoye Falls Central School Districts.
Impact Earth was responsible for setting up and monitoring five zero-waste stations and a vendor table during the event. The zero-waste station options included recycling, composting, bottles/cans, and landfill bins. We assisted patrons and vendors with their trash disposal into the proper bin categories. In addition, Impact Earth staff and volunteers provided patrons and vendors with educational information regarding the zero-waste concept, introduced our real-time sorting process, and provided information about our network of sustainability businesses in the Finger Lakes region. We also provided composting information for residential service provided through our partner, Community Composting.
